What is an Architect?
Although some Architects are self-employed, most work as part of a wider design team in an architectural studio or practice, having completed the five year architecture degree and two years professional experience as an Architectural Assistant.

Duties of an Architect
As an ARB approved Architect, you will be given more responsibility on projects and further opportunities to demonstrate your advanced design skills. You may have the opportunity to lead smaller projects, attend site visits and be the point of contact for clients. Other responsibilities will include discussing briefs clients about their project, developing budget proposals, drafting design plans and visiting the site of a building project to make sure the blueprints are followed.
Skills and Competencies
Having previously completed Part 1, Part 2 and professional practical experience, Architects should be able to demonstrate evidence of commercial awareness, good self-management, autonomous working and integrity to the profession. At this stage, Architects will have more day-to-day exposure to clients and as such, will need to demonstrate the skills necessary to provide a competent service of client needs such as good communication, coordination and competent delivery.
