A bespoke high-end residential and commercial studio is seeking an experienced and skilled Head of Design to join their growing studio. The ideal candidate will have strong project oversight, guiding projects from concept to completion and spearheading creative ingenuity. Strong communication skills, confidence working with high-end clients, and a passion for design to ensure the studio’s vision flourishes.

Head of Design Job Description

  • Collaborate closely with the Design Director and Operations Manager to streamline the management of the design team, overseeing project programming, resource allocation, and ensuring the production of high-quality work
  • Motivate and mentor team members, proactively addressing project issues and managing performance to cultivate a culture of problem-solving and innovation
  • Ensure the timely delivery of projects by developing and maintaining detailed project schedules, addressing challenges and adapting to changes during execution
  • Maintain oversight of design standards, principles, and processes to uphold quality assurance
  • Effectively manage resources and project budgets
  • Play a crucial role in recruitment and onboarding new team members, providing key reports to the Directors
  • Reviewing technical packs for quality and standards before submission. Conduct regular check-ins to ensure the team’s work aligns with the correct design specifications
  • Monitor and contribute to the growth of client relationships and communications. Assist in marketing and business development initiatives
  • Occasionally travel within the UK and abroad as required
  • This role would be for someone legally eligible to work in the UK

Skills Necessary for this Head of Design Role

  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in a high-end interior design or architectural practice, supported by a robust portfolio
  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, taking pride in consistently delivering work of the highest standards
  • Capability to convey ideas three-dimensionally, including sketching proficiency
  • Showcase excellent conceptual design and presentation skills
  • Proven experience in developing and producing design packages. Track record in creating compelling moods, FF&E style selections, and schematic boards, both physical and digital
  • Possess practical knowledge of executing design intent, with a deep understanding of construction methods
  • Extensive experience in client-facing roles
  • Demonstrate a proactive leadership approach within the studio, effectively communicating with clients and contractors
  • Possess project coordination and timeline management skills. Proven on-site experience, overseeing projects from concept to completion
  • Hold commercial awareness in aspects of projects
  • Proficiency in a range of software including Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite (InDesign), and 3D programs
  • Preferably, hold a recognised qualification in interior design or architecture
