Senior Urban Designer Role Summary

An exciting urban design practice is seeking a full-time Senior Urban Designer to drive public realm design development through RIBA stages 0-5. Based in Farringdon, the practice collaborates with developers, local authorities, architects and communities in London and abroad.

Ideal candidates will have a RIBA Part III qualification or be chartered with the Landscape Institute. This client-facing role involves close collaboration with Directors and team members.

Key Responsibilities for this Senior Urban Designer Role

  • Collaborate effectively with the Directors, Urban Designers, Graphic Design Team, Researchers, and Project Assistants.
  • Co-lead design proposals for complex urban sites.
  • Manage multiple and/or complex projects, including team and resource management.
  • Liaise with clients, attend meetings, and represent the practice at public meetings.
  • Conduct on-site surveys, including interviews, photography, drawing, and mapping.
  • Perform desk-based and archival research.
  • Create digital visualisations and compile survey materials and images for reports.
  • Analyse research findings and write comprehensive reports.
  • Coordinate with project consultants and sub-consultants.
  • Compile, write, and edit reports, ensuring quality assurance.
  • Present findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences.
  • Support the Leadership Team in project management within budgets and timeframes.
  • Contribute to project communication strategies.
  • Contribute to sales proposals, tenders, and scopes of work for additional services.
  • Mentor junior staff to enhance skills relevant to the projects.
  • Handle general office duties related to the role.

About You

  • At least seven years of experience in public realm schemes within landscape or architectural practice.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in producing detailed design work at RIBA Stages 3-4.
  • Professional experience managing urban design projects and public realm design.
  • A strong understanding of the sector and practical application constraints.
