What is a Junior Interior Architect?
Interior Architecture is a relatively new term, partly introduced due to the increasing scope and responsibilities of Interior Designers, who are now expected to be experts in structural technical elements of building, as well as aesthetics. Interior Architects are required to consider pretty much everything to do with the building of interior spaces, from electrical and plumbing requirements to materials, finishing and the intelligent use of space.
Duties of a Junior Interior Architect
As a junior member of the team, you will support a team of more senior interiors professionals with sketches, supervised planning and concept ideas, ensuring that projects are designed to the highest quality and in line with the client brief. Despite being an entry level position, you will be given the chance to work on projects, as well as the opportunity to take part in site visits. This will get you used to interacting with clients and contractors. The junior position will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the interior design process, as well as a fantastic foundation for the rest of your career.
Skills and Competencies
You will be working alongside more experienced Interior Architects and will need to take in lots of information quickly while approaching any project work with creativity, aesthetic vision and imagination. Interior Architects must be able to read blueprints and understand building codes and safety regulations. All roles in design require exceptional communication skills and it’s essential that all Interior Architects are able translate their visions to clients and colleagues through drawings and specifications.
