What is a Senior Interior Designer?
Senior Interior Designers will typically have at least eight years’ experience and will have a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates their breadth of expertise across a range of successful projects. As integral members of the design team, Senior Interior Designers are often required to lead their own design teams in the delivery of projects from concept through to completion.
Duties of a Senior Interior Designer
Senior Interior Designers are typically involved from the start of the planning process and will plan each element of a building’s interior, from the physical lay-out of rooms, to picking colour schemes and light fittings. You will have substantial input on projects from inception to completion, usually with a particular emphasis on leading teams; managing and motivating junior designers. You will also play a central role in client management and satisfaction; maintaining and growing existing relationships, while identifying future opportunities.
Skills and Competencies
You will have a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates design flair and presentation skills. Working closely with contractors, suppliers and architects, you will need to be able to coordinate a multitude of tasks simultaneously. Up-to-date knowledge of design trends, innovative design materials, products and suppliers is key. All roles in design require exceptional communication skills and it’s essential that all Interior Designers are able translate their visions to clients and colleagues through drawings and specifications.
