What is a Senior Urban Designer?
Senior Urban Designers will typically have at least five years’ experience in the field and a track record of delivering successful projects across a variety of environments, scales and complexities. As key members of the design team, Senior Urban Designers are often required to lead urban designs team in the delivery of masterplans and visions for projects that deliver places of value in towns and cities.
Duties of a Senior Urban Designer
Having enjoyed a career as an Urban Designer, this more senior position comes with a new set of challenges and with far more project responsibilities. You will have substantial input on masterplanning projects from inception to completion, usually with a particular emphasis on leading teams; managing and motivating junior designers. You will also play a central role in client management and satisfaction; maintaining and growing existing relationships, while identifying future opportunities.
Skills and Competencies
Senior Urban Designers will be expected to have a strong urban design background, usually gained across a number of sectors such as residential, mixed use, retail, employment, and leisure. Confident in presenting complex plans, the role will typically require an ability to deliver innovative design solutions and detailed planning applications. On top of this, excellent communication skills, report writing ability and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, CAD and Sketch Up are highly desirable skills.
