What is an Architectural Visualiser?
Architectural Visualisers are the graphical wizards who bring Architects’ designs to life, allowing a client to see how their project will looks once it’s built. Visualisation covers everything from basic sketches to more sophisticated 3D renderings, Interactive 360˚ panoramas and, more recently, virtual realty. Architectural visualisation can also be used to sell a studio’s design services; giving perspective clients a clearer idea of a practice’s full design capabilities.
Duties of an Architectural Visualiser
Architectural Visualisers work closely with the architectural and interior design teams to develop high quality drawings and renders for planning submissions and presentations. Typically using Photoshop, Sketchup and/or 3D Studio Max, Visualiser will often be asked to manage individual projects from start to completion as well as working as part of a team on larger scale projects. Visualisers will often be asked to participate in the presentation of design proposals to perspective clients or managers.
Skills and Competencies
Architectural Visualisers will typically have an art and design related degree in architecture, interior or 3D design. They will have a keen eye for detail and be masters of design software such as 3DX, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino and Revit. Strong modelling and texturing skills are also beneficial and in some cases are considered essential skills.
