Urban Designer (3–7 Years’ Experience)
London | Hybrid Working | £30-50k DOE
HAUS Careers is working on behalf of a design-led client who is looking to appoint a talented Urban Designer to join their growing London studio.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an Urban Designer with around 3–7 years’ professional experience to work across a broad range of UK-based projects, including strategic masterplans, new neighbourhoods, regeneration frameworks, town centre studies and place-led development strategies.
The successful candidate will be joining a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where design thinking, creativity and the ability to translate big ideas into deliverable places are highly valued.
Our client is looking for someone with a Master’s or Diploma qualification in Urban Design, or an equivalent background in architecture, landscape architecture, planning or urban design. You will bring a genuine passion for creating thoughtful, sustainable and distinctive places, along with the confidence to contribute to projects from early concept through to delivery.
The Role
As part of the urban design team, you will contribute to projects from initial visioning and concept development through to planning submissions, design coding and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with colleagues across urban design, architecture, landscape and planning, helping to shape places that respond to context, community and climate.
This role would suit someone who combines strong design and graphic skills with strategic thinking, enjoys working collaboratively and is keen to take increasing responsibility for project delivery and client-facing work.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–7 years’ experience in urban design, masterplanning or a related built environment discipline.
- A Master’s or Diploma in Urban Design (or equivalent qualification).
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent design, graphic and placemaking skills.
- Experience preparing masterplans, development frameworks, design codes, vision documents and planning-related material.
- A sound understanding of UK planning policy, urban design guidance and development processes.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly through drawings, diagrams and reports.
- Confidence working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Vectorworks, GIS or related software is beneficial.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing design concepts, masterplans and urban design strategies.
- Producing high-quality graphics, reports and presentation material.
- Supporting planning submissions, design reviews and stakeholder engagement processes.
- Contributing to workshops, client meetings and public consultation activities.
- Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Helping to develop innovative approaches to sustainable, healthy and resilient places.
- Supporting the continued growth and reputation of the practice through design excellence.
Why Apply?
Our client offers the chance to join a design-led practice with an ambitious, collaborative and supportive culture. The studio believes great places come from curiosity, critical thinking and working across disciplines, and this role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while continuing to develop your career.
You can expect mentoring, professional development, flexible working, competitive benefits and a studio environment where people are encouraged to grow, challenge themselves and make a genuine impact.
If you are passionate about shaping better places and are ready for your next step in urban design, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Please apply with your CV and portfolio.
