Job category: Architecture

Location

North London, UK

Type

Salary

£45,000 - £47,000

  • Architect Associate
  • 30 October 2025

A small, design-led, RIBA-chartered practice in North London is seeking a talented Senior Architect to lead and deliver beautifully crafted residential projects across all RIBA stages. This is a rare opportunity to join a thoughtful and ethical studio that specialises in sustainable renovations and extensions to heritage homes.

The role is part-time (three days per week), perfect for someone balancing teaching, other practice commitments, or personal projects. Flexible working is central to the studio’s ethos – you can work remotely or from the studio as suits you – though applicants must be based in London.

About the Senior Architect Role

You’ll be responsible for leading projects from concept through to completion, working closely with clients, consultants, and craftspeople. The role would suit someone who enjoys both design and detail, who can think conceptually while delivering precise, buildable solutions.

About You

You’re an experienced Architect with a passion for sustainable design and an eye for quality. You take pride in your drawings, your detailing, and your ability to make historic homes feel contemporary and alive again.

You will have:

  • Strong UK private residential experience

  • Confidence producing planning and tender drawings

  • A solid understanding of working with existing and historic buildings

  • Good knowledge of planning policy and building regulations

  • Experience with listed buildings and conservation areas

  • Proficiency in Rhino (2D and 3D)

  • Experience with JCT contract administration

  • The ability to work independently and manage your own schedule

  • A genuine commitment to sustainability (and perhaps an appreciation for a well-designed Vola tap!)

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: £45,000–£50,000 FTE (pro-rata £27,000–£30,000 for three days/week)

  • Hours: Three days per week (24 hours total, flexible schedule)

  • Contract: Six-month initial term, with a strong likelihood of becoming permanent

  • Overtime: Optional, paid at £35–£40 per hour

  • Design autonomy: Real creative authorship across projects

Benefits

  • 32 days’ holiday including bank holidays (FTE)

  • Two mental health days and two volunteering/charity days per year (FTE)

  • Unlimited unpaid leave policy (requests considered in good faith)

  • Flexi-time (core hours 11am–4pm)

  • Option to compress hours (e.g. 3 days into 2.5)

  • NEST pension

  • Remote or hybrid working options

  • Paid CPD time and funded training courses (e.g. Passivhaus, Conservation)

  • Support for union membership

  • High-spec PC for design and rendering work

  • A supportive, ethical, and design-driven culture

If you’re a Senior Architect with a passion for thoughtful, sustainable design and the flexibility to work part-time, we’d love to hear from you.
